ICREA and Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Spain
The Earth Sciences Department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center<https://www.bsc.es/discover-bsc/organisation/scientific-structure/earth-sciences> performs research on global air quality and climate prediction with the perspective of improving the delivery of the corresponding services for the public and private sectors. Dynamical models are developed and big data solutions are implemented to ensure an efficient delivery of the services, always using community models so that the computational efficiency work carried out can benefit a large number of institutions. Examples of the success of the symbiosis between computational performance, process-based model development and service-oriented co-development of weather and climate information will be presented.
