The fifth workshop of the CLIVAR International Climate of the Twentieth Century Project (C20C) will be held on 25-28 October 2010 in Institute of Atmospheric Physcis (IAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Beijing, China. The workshop will be hosted by LASG/IAP/CAS. The goals of the workshop will be to review progress on ongoing C20C experiments, discuss potential contributions to the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), discuss collaborations with other projects (e.g. LUCID), and make plans for future experiments.
The meeting will be organized in two parts. The first part will include presentations that address the goals of the
workshop. Talks are welcome on the following topics:
1. Findings from ongoing C20C experiments -- “Traditional” AGCM -- “Pacemaker” runs with regionally coupled models
2. HadISST2 and (possibly) subsurface data
3. LUCID (and possibly WAMME)
4. Detection and Attribution in the context of C20C
The second part of the workshop will be organized into 4 breakout groups:
1. C20C contributions to Detection and Attribution, a new core C20C area (with potential input to the AR5)
2. Coordination and collaboration with LUCID and related topics
3. The development and use of HadISST2
4. Sources of forcing data to be used in future C20C experiments
The way C20C can or should use atmospheric and coupled models, and the modes of running models, should
be part of each relevant area of presentation and discussion
