The 6th University Allied Workshop was held in Seoul, Korea

The sixth University Allied Workshop (UAW-2009) was held from 22-24 June in
Seoul, . The theme of the workshop is “climate and environmental change”. About 70 delegates from the relevant universities and institutes in Beijing, Nanjing, Lanzhou, Qingdao, Taipei, Tokyo, and
Seoul attended the workshop. These delegates are mainly engaged in the studies of climate model development, assessment and analysis. About 2/3 of the delegates are PhD candidates.

University attended the workshop. Among them, 4 scientists (Bin Wang, Tianjun Zhou, Anmin Duan, and Qing Bao) and 7 PhD students (Xiaohao Qin, Tie Dai, Lei Feng, Zhiqiang Li, Xiangcui Liu, Bing Lu, and Xia Zhao) are from IAP. Dr. Tianjun Zhou is one of the coordinatorsand Ms. Xiaohao Qin is the student representative from mainland .
The aim of UAW is to encourage cooperative research and graduate student education among university groups carrying climate modeling and analysis in East Asia , which in turn will improve the studies on East Asian regional climate and environment, and in particular, train the talents for climate modelling . It’s the sixth time UAW has been held. Students had warm discussion on climate modeling, climate variability, and environment modeling and observation. IAP students spent about two months preparing their presentation and demonstrated good understanding to science and high English proficiency during the workshop. They were also active in the discussion and reception party. The e-journal of UAW initiated by IAP students was also supported by all delegates. The first issue of e-journal will be published by IAP students.
During the workshop, Dr. Tianjun Zhou gave an invited plenary talk “Diurnal cycle of precipitation over eastern ”. Dr. Anmin Duan is the chair of session “climate variability” and Mr. Tie Dai is a co-chair. Ms. Xiaohao Qin and Mr. Zhiqiang Li gave plenary students’ report at the end of the workshop on behalf of respective group.
