【报告简介】
Prof. Donglian Sun is a faculty at the Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science, George Mason University. She got a Master degree for working with numerical simulations of East Asia monsoon under the advice of Prof. Baozhen Zhu in 1989 in China, another Master degree under the supervision of famous numerical model scientist Prof. Dalin Zhang, Ph.D. degree under the advice of famous remote sensing scientist Prof. Rachel Pinker from University of Maryland at College Park. She is one of the first generation scientists working with algorithm development for the next generation polar orbiting satellite system NPOESS, now S-NPP, and future JPSS. She has dedicated to the development of remote sensing algorithms for derivation of surface and atmospheric information, including surface temperature, surface type, soil moisture, and atmospheric water vapor, and flood/drought monitoring from satellite observations. She and her group developed GOES land surface temperature (LST) product. The current S-NPP VIIRS LST product is based on her algorithm. She and her group have also been in charge of generating and providing flood products for National Weather Services (NWS) River Forecasting Centers. She combined satellite remote sensing and numerical model simulations for studying natural hazards, especially tropical cyclones.
