Dr. Xu Liang is a William Kepler Whiteford Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, U.S.A. Her core research spans three main areas: eco-hydrology and land surface modeling, hydroinformatics using advanced machine learning methodologies, and cyber system development and wireless sensor network. She also actively engages in interdisciplinary collaboration work with atmospheric scientists, plant biologists, and computer scientists. Prof. Liang has been instrumental in the initial and subsequent development of the VIC land surface model and the VIC+ model. She is the recipient of the 2014 Carnegie Science Environmental Award
