Abstract
The Asian monsoon covers one third of the world’s population and changes in monsoon precipitation due to anthropogenic warming could lead to severe impacts on availability of future water resources and hydro-meteorological hazards. In light of the Paris Agreement, which seeks to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial conditions, scientific research identifying regional impacts of global warming has become essential for climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. We investigate the projected impacts of global warming 1.5°C above pre-industrial conditions (and beyond), on the Asian monsoon. We also aim to identify the sources of change in the projected precipitation. Our results indicate an increase in the mean and extremes, of temperature and precipitation, with additional warming over southern and eastern Asia.
