The First China Greenhouse Gas Monitoring Symposium was held at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP), Chinese academy of sciences (CAS) from May 30 to 31, 2019. The meeting aimed to exchange the latest findings in the field of greenhouse gas monitoring in China and promote related research and development. It brought about 200 researchers and technicians on greenhouse gas monitoring from 81 institutions at home and abroad.

The meeting centered on six themes including carbon dioxide background monitoring, city carbon dioxide monitoring, monitoring data for assimilation and inventory application, non-carbon dioxide greenhouse gas monitoring, greenhouse gas flux and new technology and application of greenhouse gas observation. Forty-nine oral talks were given during the two-day meeting. In the discussion session, participants actively discussed about topics such as carbon dioxide monitoring standards and data resource platform. All expressed a desire to establish a further communication platform to promote future cooperation in developing of China's greenhouse gas monitoring technology.

The meeting was organized by the State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (LASG), IAP and co-organized by Meteorological Observation Center of China Meteorological Administration, Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS, China National Environmental Monitoring Centre, National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center, and National Institute of Metrology, China.

As part of the academic exchange of the National key research and development project, the symposium built a bridge for communication among China greenhouse gas monitoring researchers and advanced the implementation of the project.
